BCCI to change WT20 venue from Dharamshala to Calcutta

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suggested that Pakistan play the World T20 match in Calcutta instead of Dharamshala in view of their security fears.
The Pakistan team is expected to leave for Calcutta from Dubai tomorrow, Geo News reported. A decision on whether the Pakistan Cricket Board will send the team to India or not, is expected shortly.
Earlier the PCB had asked the International Cricket council (ICC) to move the India match out of Dharamsala after its delegation to review security arrangements for the mega cricket event, declared it insufficient.
According to our sources, they informed Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan that security of the team is not assured at Dharamsala. Nisar then decided that the national team would not travel to India today.
PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan asked ICC chief executive David Richardson to shift the March 19 encounter to Kolkata or Mohali.
The Pakistani delegation, comprising of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director Usman Anwar, PCB chief security officer Col (retd) Azam Khan and Ubaid Nazamani, reportedly remained unsatisfied with the security protocol prepared for the team.
Chaudhry Nisar has already expressed concerns over security threats for the team at Dharamsala stadium.
“I have asked the PCB chairman to wait, and the team can wait until the security clearance is assured,” he told a press gathering in Islamabad last week. “We can delay our team’s departure until we are sure that they will be safe in India.
“If the security team’s initial report is positive, our cricket team will leave for India as per schedule on Wednesday otherwise we may delay the team’s departure. We not only want our team’s security in hotels and on routes, but want our players to play cricket without any worries in grounds where thousands of people will accumulate for the match. We will only give a green signal for the team to go to India once we get security clearance.”
PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan has said that the threats against the Pakistan team are specific and threatened to pull out of the tournament unless the PCB gets a clear message about the security situation from the Indian government.

If the team agrees to participate in the tournament, it will play its first match on March 16. Pakistan and India are expected to face each other in a match to take place on March 19.
